Anjum Moudgil’s Road to Paris Olympics

As the Paris Olympic 2024 Match draw near, India eagerly anticipates the upcoming event, especially in the field of shooting. Anjum Moudgil, a seasoned shooter who has encountered professional setbacks, approaches this quadrennial event with renewed optimism and determination. This time, she will exclusively compete in the 50m rifle 3 positions event, highlighting her evolved skills since her last appearance at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

Overcoming Setbacks and Embracing Growth

Despite facing disappointment after missing out on the 2023 World Championships and the deferred 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, Anjum chose not to dwell on missed opportunities. Instead, she sought new experiences, such as paragliding and seeking solace in the mountains of Himachal Pradesh.

In an interview with IANS, Anjum reflected on her journey, stating, “I am prepared for Paris; the past months have been a testament to our readiness and ability to handle pressure. The successful trials and tournaments have bolstered my confidence. I am focused, organized, and proceeding as planned.”

Redemption and Triumph

After her challenging outing at the Tokyo Olympics, where she finished 15th in the 50m 3 positions and 18th in the 10m air rifle, Anjum bounced back impressively in 2022. She secured a silver medal at the Baku World Cup and a bronze at the Changwon World Cup, ascending to the World No. 1 spot in the 50m 3 positions in July 2022.

“I don’t dwell on past disappointments. Tokyo was tough, but Paris holds promise,” Anjum remarked. “Qualifying for Tokyo required winning the quota three years prior and maintaining that rank amidst Covid disruptions was taxing. The hiatus was challenging,” she added.

Preparation and Triumph

This time around, Anjum’s meticulous preparation paid dividends. Despite initial challenges, she excelled in the NRAI’s revised selection trials. After a slow start, she clinched top positions in subsequent rounds, securing her place for Paris with a strong performance in the final selection trial in May.

Focus on Mental Strength and Resilience

Anjum emphasized the significance of mental fortitude and creativity in her current preparations. “Painting has been therapeutic and complements my shooting. Enhancing my mental training over the past two years has been crucial,” she shared.

Her approach remains steadfast: maintain momentum and adhere to her established routine. “I aim to sustain this enthusiasm leading up to the games, sticking to my plan without making significant changes,” she affirmed.

Road to Paris 2024

Anjum Moudgil, alongside Sift Kaur Samra, will proudly represent India in the Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions event at the Paris Olympics, commencing on July 26. As the final countdown begins, Anjum’s journey epitomizes resilience, growth, and the pursuit of excellence in the face of adversity.
