India will play three of their four group games in New York against Ireland, Pakistan, and the USA, while their last league game against Canada will be held in Florida. The ongoing T20 World Cup2024 in the West Indies and USA has seen a lack of buzz, partly due to high ticket prices, leading to partially empty stadiums. Despite this, India head coach Rahul Dravid remains hopeful about fan turnout for their group games.

A New Experience in the USA

“It’s slightly different and exciting to have a World Cup coming to a new country, and a new place,” Dravid said in a pre-match press conference. He noted that cricket is not a major sport in the USA, which has impacted the buzz around the tournament. However, Dravid is optimistic that Indian fans will show up in large numbers to support the team and bring the usual excitement.

Training at Cantiague Park

Since their arrival in New York, the Indian players have been training at Cantiague Park, located in Hicksville. Dravid acknowledged that practicing in a public park has been a unique experience. “But in terms of what we wanted out of practice, it hasn’t changed the way we practice or the professionalism we have in terms of approaching things,” Dravid explained.

Enjoying the Unusual Setting

Dravid emphasized that while it is unusual to practice in a park instead of a cricket stadium, the experience has been enjoyable and refreshing. “It is a bit strange that we are practicing in the park, as compared to practicing in cricket stadiums during other events. But here we are, practicing in a public park, which has been great fun. But it has been something new and exciting,” he added.

India’s T20 World Cup Campaign

India will open their Men’s T20 World Cup2024 campaign against Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on June 5. The 2007 champions warmed up in style with a 60-run win over Bangladesh at the same venue on June 1.

Opening Options and Strategy

A key discussion point in the cricketing circles has been India’s opening options. The team has three strong contenders: captain Rohit Sharma, young Yashasvi Jaiswal, and the experienced Virat Kohli. The combination of these players at the top of the order has generated intense debate and anticipation among fans and experts.

As India gears up for their group games in the T20 World Cup2024, the team is adapting to the unique conditions in the USA. Practicing in a public park may be unusual, but it has not hindered their preparation. Rahul Dravid and his squad are focused on their goals, hoping to bring excitement and success to their fans, both in the USA and back home.
